I’ve found that the easiest way of applying this is packing on a thick layer of product onto my finger and then swiping it onto my lids in as few strokes possible.

I first tried on this eyeshadow with the expectation that all Mac Paint Pots create an effortlessly even eyeshadow base on the lids. Because it’s so soft it’s easy to pack on a lot of color with your applicator of choice- in my case, my finger.
Much to my surprise, I had expected some dryness and resistance as I’ve experienced with the Maybelline Color Tattoos, but this wasn’t the case. Rubenesque is a soft and creamy eyeshadow that my finger smoothly glides across. On the left swatch, I tried to capture the uneven texture of the shadow when applying it thinly. On the right swatch, I applied a thicker layer to show the gold color and upon closer inspection, you can even see the pink duochrome shift at the bottom. I do enjoy the minimalism of the packaging, but if there were one thing I could change, it would be flattening the rounded lid so that the shadow could be stacked and stored with the bottom facing up. There is a bit of weight to the product because the jar is made of glass, which seems to be the standard for cream eyeshadows. The glass bottom reveals the color of the cream eyeshadow within. The Paint Pot comes in a sturdy glass jar with a black screw top lid. Ithink it’s so pretty that it stands alone as an eyeshadow, but it can also be used as an eyeshadow base topped with powder. On my eyes it ends up being a yellow gold with a slight yellow sheen. The duochrome shift is noticeable in the pot and even in swatches, but on the eyes it doesn’t translate at all. It’s such a pretty color, both in the pot and on the eyes, although the colors don’t totally translate to the eyes. Rubenesque is a yellowish orange gold with a barely there pink duochrome shift. I’ve been curious about these for many years and was happy to finally get my hands on the MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Rubenesque!
