Unmaintained steep trail requires caution. Trail conditions are tougher than the Bright Angel and South Kaibab Trails. (Steep) The Hermit Trail offers hikes to Santa Maria Spring, 5 miles (round trip), and Dripping Springs, 7 miles (round trip). Upper portion of the trail may be extremely icy in winter or early spring. Water available seasonally at the trailhead. Offers day hikes that range in distance up to 6 miles (round trip). Access to the trailhead is by shuttle bus (Kaibab Trail Route). (Steep) The South Kaibab Trail begins south of Yaki Point on Yaki Point Road. Check at the Visitor Center or Backcountry Information Center for water status. Seasonal water subject to pipeline breaks. (Steep) The Bright Angel Trail begins just west of Bright Angel Lodge and offers day hikes that range in distance up to 12 miles (round trip). Part of the trail is paved and accessible. By using the shuttle buses, you can customize your hike to meet your needs. The Rim Trail offers excellent walking for quiet views of the inner canyon and for visitors who desire an easy hike. Or you can choose to day hike into the canyon. Both the South Rim and the North Rim offer rim trail hikes that have spectacular views of the inner canyon, some on paved trails. Many options are available for day hikers. DO NOT attempt to hike from the rim to the river and back in one day, especially during the months of May to September. The difference between a great adventure in Grand Canyon and a trip to the hospital (or worse) is up to YOU. Other campgrounds you may like in the area include Cape Blanco State Park and Humbug Mountain State Park.Over 250 people are rescued from the canyon each year. And be sure to check out the ‘Steam Donkey’ which is displayed in the park. Other outdoor activities include boating/fishing, hiking, biking and wildlife viewing. It also has picnic shelters, tennis courts, basketball/volleyball courts, a softball field and playground. Powers County Park has flush toilets, warm showers, and a RV dump station. Tent campsites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. In addition, each campsite has a table, fire ring and grill. The campground also has 3 cabins and RV sites with electrical and water hookups. Powers County Park campground has 70 campsites with 40 RV sites (with electric/water) and 30 tent sites available within the town of Powers, OR.
